After Hours Radio formed from the DIY music scene of the student co-ops at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2014. Referring to a member’s experience as a late-night radio DJ, the band’s name encapsulates an unrestricted songwriting approach. The band has become known for an infectious blend of groovy riffs, alternative/indie music, and inspiration from genres outside of rock. Their self-titled debut EP and follow-up single employed this formula with introspective lyrical themes.
AHR’s next EP release will bring these favorite musical elements in spades as the lyrics explore the difficulties of moving on and, slowly but surely, rebuilding. ‘What Happened?’ comes out on 9/29.
“Garagey but kinda sexy and 90s sounding with a weird space vibe occasionally all brought together with really soulful Dan Auerbach-esque vocals.” – Charlie Atchley, Vaguewaves, Oxi, Knowhere DIY
